BUDGET RESET – Governor Carney to hold Newark town hall on state budget

I’m looking forward to joining Sen. Stephanie Hansen and Rep. Earl Jaques in hosting Governor John Carney for a candid conversation with the community regarding the state budget on Wednesday, May 24.

The governor has been traveling around the state answering tough questions and talking about the need to for a balanced solution to our budget challenges, and we’re excited to have him visit our communities.

The meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. at Delaware State Police Troop 2, 100 Lagrange Ave., Newark, DE 19702.

We’d love for you to join us. Please come ready with your own ideas and suggestions about how we can best move forward with a budget that works for all Delawareans. For more information about the Governor’s budget proposal, visit http://governor.delaware.gov/budgetreset/.

COLONIAL REFERENDUM: Colonial School District to hold June 6 referendum

The Colonial School District will hold a second referendum on Tuesday, June 6, after a first attempt failed on Feb. 28.

The Colonial Board of Education is seeking the same amount it sought in February: 38 cents per $100 of assessed home value. The referendum is designed to cover solely growth needs associated with an increasing student population, not the expansion or addition of any new programs. Additionally, the District is no longer pursuing a capital referendum for facility upgrades.

Residents of legal voting age living within the Colonial School District boundaries are eligible to vote in the referendum. Voters can vote at any location listed here by the New Castle County Department of Elections, and polls are open from 10 a.m. – 8 p.m. For more information on the referendum, visit the Colonial School District’s website. And if you’d like to calculate how much you’d owe should the operating increase be approved, simply enter your address in this handy calculator provided by Colonial.

Whatever your position, I urge you to vote and make your voice heard on Tuesday, June 6.
