At the Board of Education meeting held on December 11, 2012 the Board approved holding an operating referendum on February 28, 2013 in the amount of 47 cents per $100 of assessed property value.

Please note that the 85.6 cents referred to in the Colonial Reporter and in various articles is the current expense portion of the total tax rate. The tax rate is comprised of four components:
  • Current expense (subject to referendum and the increase being proposed at this time)
  • Debt Service (subject to referendum and is not part of the referendum ofFebruary 28th)
  • Tuition (not subject to referendum)
  • Minor Capital (not subject to referendum)
The total tax rate for 2013 is $1.326.

Who can vote in a school district referendum?
Every citizen 18 years of age or over and a resident of the reorganized school district shall be eligible to vote at the school election in the reorganized school district in which that citizen resides, whether or not that citizen is at the time a registered voter for purposes of a general election. (Title XIV, Section 1077)
