Public Info Meeting for U.S. 40 RR Crossing Replacement – July 9

The Delaware Department of Transportation (DelDOT) in conjunction with Norfolk Southern Railway invites the public to attend an Informational Meeting to discuss the replacement of the existing railroad crossing on U.S. Route 40/Pulaski Highway, just east of Route 72 in Bear.  The Public Informational Meeting will be held from 4 PM until 7 PM on Tuesday, July 9 at the Oberle Elementary School, 500 Caledonia Way in Bear, Delaware.  Interested persons are invited to attend to discuss the project and detour routes.

Safety improvements are required to provide a smooth crossing, correct drainage issues, and add sidewalks compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act. To complete this work, there will be a full closure of U.S. 40 from Friday evening, August 9, to Monday morning, August 26; spanning two work weeks and three weekends. All work is dependent on weather conditions and other factors. All local businesses will remain open during the road closure but regional and local detours will be in effect. These detours and other measures to mitigate traffic will be presented at the meeting.

Comments will be received during the meeting or can be mailed to DelDOT Public Relations, P.O. Box 778, Dover, DE  19903-0778 or sent via email to dotpr@state.de.us

This location is accessible to persons having disabilities. Any person having special needs or requiring special aid, such as an interpreter for the hearing impaired, is requested to contact DelDOT by phone or mail one week in advance.

More than 100 Nicole Poore Supporters attend Rally

Nicole Poore Rally

More than one hundred Delaware Senate District 12 residents — along with various dignitaries —  showed their support for Nicole Poore by attending a rally and fund raising event in Bear on July 31. The event, hosted by Delaware Governor Jack Markell, Delaware Lieutenant Governor Matt Denn, Delaware Senate President Pro Tem Tony DeLuca, Delaware Senate Majority Leader Patti Blevins, and Delaware Senate Majority Whip Margaret Rose Henry, enabled Nicole to meet more Senate District 12 voters and to discuss issues that affect them and their community.

Governor Markell addressed those in attendance and continued to show his support for Nicole. “You know a good candidate when you see one, and this is an unbelievably good candidate,” Governor Markell said.  “She’s got the intellect, she’s very good with people, and she’s got the passion to serve.” Governor Markell also spoke about Nicole’s care for better education, her advocacy for people with special needs, and her unique ability to bring people together.

In addition to the rally hosts and the 12th District residents, several other Nicole Poore supporters attended the event, including Delaware Senator Bethany Hall-Long, Delaware State Representative Valerie Longhurst, Delaware State Senate – District 5 Candidate Chris Counihan, and New Castle County Council Presidential Candidate Renee Taschner.

Nicole thanked the supporters and welcomed their commitments.  “I look forward to your continued support in getting me to the end of this race as the next senator for the twelfth district, ” stated Poore. “There’s no stopping this team because we know that I’m going to be the next senator.”

Nicole Poore Participates in Delaware City Day Parade

Nicole Poore understands the value of a strong family.

Saturday, July 21, 2012 marked Delaware City’s 32nd annual celebration of the riverfront town’s historic, small-town American architecture and culture — aptly named “Delaware City Day.” Amidst the crowd of eager parade onlookers, Delaware’s 12th District Senate Candidate, Nicole Poore, cheerily zig-zagged back and forth across the streets to personally shake the hands of the young, the old … and the 4-legged.

Team Poore made a strong showing with their diverse group of 25+ volunteers who surrounded Nicole and exchanged pleasantries with participants, neighbors and vendors.  Though the sky may have been gloomy and threatening, the temperature was tolerable, and the overall mood was festive and receptive to Nicole’s infectious smile and sincere personality.

Nicole met with numerous residents of the 12th District who looked forward to positive change in November, and she spoke with several dignitaries, including Delaware Representative and supporter Valerie Longhurst. Nicole was pleased to see so many 12th District residents at Delaware City Day, and she was encouraged by the supporters and well-wishers.
